There’s been quite a bit of coverage over the recent months about Social Networking in the workplace. It’s been a few years since this particular issue saw this much coverage. Maybe it’s the current economic situation that’s driving organisations to be more concerned about staff productivity or it could just be sheer coincidence.

The BBC has reported that Portsmouth City Council has banned staff from accessing a number of web sites including facebook, Bebo, Twitter and eBay. The council had previously banned YouTube.

Previously companies have been concerned with employees accessing inappropriate online content in the workplace. However, during the past couple of years many of our customers have been asking us to help them to additionally manage employee access to sites that impact on productivity, particularly social networking sites such as Facebook and Bebo.
